Uniform Policy

For school year 2018-2019 and beyond we are shifting back to our traditional dress code at Imagine Morningside to include Oxford shirts, khaki bottoms and dress shoes. We are adding a blazer to fit our new MicroSociety curriculum program where scholars will develop entrepreneurial, leadership and self-management skills. We believe that a higher standard of dress encourages greater respect for individuals, scholars and others, and results in a higher standard of behavior. In other words, coming to school dressed properly and professionally increases  self worth which encourages academic achievement.

This belief is supported by research into the benefits of uniforms, though conventional wisdom suggests that mandatory uniform policies benefit scholars on specific behavioral issues (attendance and self control) and academic outcomes. Uniform policies also affect school environments and student outcomes by providing a visible and public symbol of commitment to school improvement and reform. With that said, the Uniform and Dress Code Policy was crafted in an effort to ensure that we “look the part” and represent our school community, Imagine Schools, and Prince George’s County Public Schools with pride and with excellence.

The Imagine Foundations at Morningside uniform consists of:

Scholars will wear the navy blue blazer on Microsociety days- Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We suggest only purchasing 1 blazer and buying a size that will allow your scholar to wear it comfortably with a short and long sleeve shirt as well as  into the next school year . The sleeves of the blazers can be extended so that the blazer can be worn for more than one school year.

All uniform items- shirts, ties,  sweaters (optional), blazers (recommended) and PE attire- must be purchased from our vendor, Flynn O’Hara Uniform. Cross ties will be available for purchase at school for $6.00.

Khaki bottoms, shoes and belts may be purchased anywhere. Parents may choose when scholars wear short or long-sleeve shirts, and shorts or long pants.

All parents must understand the dress code prior to the first day of school. Scholars are expected to be in their school uniforms on the first day of school.
